So, I am extremely excited and extremely nervous--mostly nervous.
As you know (because I've been mentioning it ad nauseam for the last week or so), I have my 1st consultation with Dr. Lin today. I suppose it's possible, though not likely, that I could be having surgery in as little as 10 days--which is the length of the pre-op liquid diet that I've been told Dr. Lin requires. Will it really happen that soon? I know that Dr. Lin is one of the busiest bariatric surgeons in Atlanta--what if his surgery schedule is booked for the next couple of months?!?!?! I think the idea of a long wait has me more nervous than the short wait. I am SOOOOOOO ready to get this thing started!
I'm also nervous about my husband being there. Dr. Lin's offices requires that you have at least 1 "support person" with you at the 1st consultation. They just want to make sure that you're not going through this alone. I only just told my husband how much I weigh a couple of months ago (I was relieved to discover that I'm a few pounds less than him, thank the gods). But, I'm still not looking forward to getting on the scale in front of him. Silly much?--yep, I guess so.
I'm interested to hear about your first meeting with your surgeon. What did you talk about? Where were you in the process? How long was it until you actually had the surgery?
(EDIT 11:06am)--About to leave the house to go pick up my husband and then on to Dr. Lin's office for our 1:00pm appointment. I feel like I'm going to toss my cookies...except I haven't had any today. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I had my first meeting with my surgeon in October and had my surgery on March 25. There was a lot of crap to go through, but mostly for my isurance. We talked about what the band was like and he did try to talk me in to gastric bypass, he kept explaining to me that the band was much slower and required more on my part. I really liked him though. Once I got approval from my insurance co, it was only about a couple of days before I had a date. Good luck.
Just goes to show how every surgeon is different. Dr. Lin's office doesn't even schedule the first appointment with the surgeon until AFTER you've satisfied all the insurance requirements.
Yep...different strokes for different folks. I'm on the 6 month supervised diet and see the doc every time I go in. First consultation with him was about medical history, the surgery itself, recovery and any other questions we had.
I absolutely love my surgeon (Dr. Boe).. he doesn't expect me to diet.. and is not a believer in denial.. if you want a taste take one!.. My first meeting was to see if my weight qualified me for the band, as he does alot of bypass.. and warns you up front that the WL is much slower.. so don't expect bypass results (I could have had either but I really did want the band). he does all of my fills.. I did have a 10 day preop.. mostly to get the liver to shrink since they have to move it around to attach the band to the stomach.. good luck to you.. hope everythign goes well
When I had my first one on one with the doc, Tracey came with me. I wanted him to be able to ask any questions that he might have and to have a better understanding on the surgery...bc it was all knew to him. Dr. Friedman explained both surgeries to me, band and gastric bypass, the pros and cons of each, etc.
From the point that I started my paperwork with the office, I think I was banded about 4 weeks later!
